2005 Grand Prize Trip to Stockholm, Sweden

On December 6, 2005, three New York City high school students left for a week-long all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Nobel Week Festivities in Sweden's capital Stockholm.

Jedtsada Laucharoen (Horace Mann School), Alina Fradlis (Staten Island Technical High School) and Michael Vishnevetsky (Midwood High School at Brooklyn College) participated in the program which included attending the lectures by the Nobel Laureates of 2005, the Prize Award Ceremony and the exclusive Nobel Banquet, where guests included King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. The students also visited a local high school, enjoyed sightseeing and experienced one of Sweden's foremost traditions, the St. Lucia pre-Christmas celebration at the Stockholm Globen Arena.

Contest winner Alina Fradlis, says this about her experience:
"Our trip to Stockholm was one of the most exciting and fulfilling experiences I’ve had. Our reception everywhere we went, from the airport, to the hotel, to the Nobel Prize festivities, was exceptional. We were able to see many tourist sites, acquaint ourselves with the Scandinavian culture and enjoy ourselves, all in a short period of time."

"The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and Nobel Banquet were majestic. There was an aura of splendor throughout the whole evening and it was almost unreal to think that we were sitting in the same hall as the Swedish royal family and some of the greatest scientific minds from around the world. The presentation of awards, the symphonic music, the dinner setting, and the show performed at the banquet were all very beautiful."
