Background

Enthused by the monument and what it symbolizes, the Consulate General of Sweden in 2005 initiated a time-limited essay contest to inspire New York high school students to strive for the level of achievement represented by the Nobel Prize and to envision the possibility of one day having their own names engraved onto the monument.

The Laureates of Tomorrow – Nobel Essay Contest has been a three-year effort by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, The New York Academy of Sciences and Nobelprize.org – the official website of the Nobel Foundation, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education and the City University of New York.
